Paediatric intensive care specialist, clinical ethicist and poet Melanie Jansen, suggests that to learn the art of medicine, we must turn to the arts. That engagement with the arts hones critical thinking and relational skills that allow us to engage and work meaningfully with complexity. These ‘artistic’ skills allow us to operationalise our scientific knowledge into the wholly human context of clinical practice. In this episode, we explore these skills and why they matter for clinical practice.
